Praise for The Eyes of Light and Darkness

"An exceptionally suspenseful and rewarding novel. One of the better DAW titles of the year."

(Science Fiction Chronicle, June 1997)

"Eyes is from the Alien and Abyss school of SF. Ivan Cat and Darren Sarvari do a good job of retelling this tale. They emphasize effects and use quick cuts between scenes to keep the action moving ... the characters are stronger than the norm. Eyes is a worthwhile addition to the genre."

(Starlog Magazine, November 1996)

"A rip-roaring adventure with a genuinely surprising ending."

(Explorations, Best of SF & Fantasy, August/September 1996)

"The Eyes of Light and Darkness is jam packed with intriguing aliens and sympathetic characters. There are space battles, perilous escapes, and thrilling encounters galore ... All in all, this is an excellent read, fast paced, full of twists and turns and memorable characters. Definitely a keeper."

(America Online Sci-Fi Review, October 1996)

Editor's Choice, Book of the Year 1996.

(America Online Writer's Club)

TEASER

Cold sleep had given Earth the Stars, but at what price? Filled with hope of a new life on a new world, many a voyager had entered the cryo containers aboard the titanic starships built to populate Jayvee 9, Earth's far-flung colony. For some that hope was fulfilled, for others there was no awakening at journey's end. And for those like ex-marshal Walker, a man permanently scarred by the madness and loneliness of seven years of cold sleep, the sole way to find peace was in space itself, flying the starways as a solitary mining pilot.

With the empathetic alien Nis as his only companion, Walker combed the giant asteroid rings near Jayvee searching for ore and returning periodically to his base at Hephaestus station. It may not have been much of a life, but for Walker it was enough.

But the discovery of a massive derelict, the sleeper ship E.S.S. Republic, found floating in the debris of Ring Belt 3, signaled an end to Walker's personal seclusion. Assigned to investigate this wreck which had been lost for more than a century, Walker and a team of anthropologists lead by the accomplished Dr. Elaine Bartlet, were about to confront an alien presence far more terrifying than Walker's most shocking cold sleep nightmares!
